KEVIN DRESSER – Head Coach, Virginia Tech.


AS A WRESTLER: He was born and raised in Humboldt, Iowa. As a wrestler, he was a 2x state champion at Humboldt High School in 1980 and 1981. At the University of Iowa, he was a 2x All-American in 1985 and 1986. He was a 2x Big Ten champion in 1985 and 1986. Also, in 1986 he was a NCAA champion at 142 pounds. Kevin was a member of 5 NCAA championship teams in 1981-1986. He was named Most Outstanding Wrestler in 1986.
AS A COACHHe moved to Virginia in 1989 and coached at Grundy High School from 1989-1996. In those 8 years he led them to 8 state titles. After Grundy, he became the Christiansburg High School coach for 10 years. While at Christiansburg, his team won 5 state titles in 2001-2006.
During his 18 year high school coaching career he coached 69 individual state champs and 121 state place winners. Also during those 18 years, four of his teams finished top 10 in the nation and seven of his teams finished top 25.
In 2006, Coach Dresser was hired at Virginia Tech. His first two seasons at Virginia Tech, Tech finished 81st out of 81 teams in the NCAA Tournament. In 2010, VT had their first All American and finished 34th in the nation. In 2013, the Hokies cracked the top 10 in that nation and haven’t left! They capped off the 2016 season with a fourth place NCAA finish and won the first team trophy in school and ACC history. They earned All American status in Six (6) Weight classes, also a school record.
NEXT SEASON: The Hokies return Six (6) All Americans and will be favored to win a fifth consecutive ACC dual meet or tournament title.
Dresser and his staff had their first All American in 2010.
Coach Dresser currently resides in Riner, VA with his wife, Penny and his three children, Emma, Anna, and Jack.
