2018 Orange County All-Star Meet Preview

The All-Star Classic is an exhibition dual that showcases some of the best wrestlers from across the county at each weight class. This year the bouts are set for Nov. 6 at Canyon High School, in

Anaheim, California, at 6:30 pm.

The Friars of Servite High leads the county with eight participants in Andrew Silva (120), Marcos Magana (135), Josh Medina (135), Roy Okada (142), Daniel Magana (142), Teddy Okada (145), Valor Buck (155), and Tristan Wilson at 195-pounds.

Arizona State signed Trey Munoz (Trabuco Hills) is scheduled to participate in the event and showcase the wrestling skills that helped him advanced to the CIF state tournament last year.

Lee Martinez Sr. (Troy) vs. Justin Allred Sr. (La Habra)
Martinez was seventh at the CIF central division but did not advance to the masters meet tournament. Allred is also senior who competed last season for Santa Fe High. He’s now at La Habra High and was fourth at CIF and 10th at the southern section masters meet.

Mathias Weckx Sr. (Laguna Hills) vs. Erik Hernandez Jr. (Villa Park)
Weckx competes for Orange County power Laguna Hills. He is a senior that placed seventh at the CIF coastal division. Hernandez advanced to the southern section masters meet tournament after having placed fourth at the CIF southern division. Hernandez went 1-2 at masters and lost 6-2 to Justin Allred in the consolation round.

Kavika Aholelei Sr. (Yorba Linda) vs. Andrew Silva Sr. (Servite)
Aholelei was the lone CIF place winner for the Mustangs last season. He is a senior that placed third at 113-pounds and was fourth at the southern section masters meet where he advanced to the state tournament. At the state tournament, he finished with a 2-2 record. Silva was one of seven CIF masters meet qualifiers for the Friars last season. He was an individual CIF champion, fourth at masters meet, and a state qualifier at 106-pounds.

Jose Mata Sr. (Santa Ana) vs. Mahrad Reyhani Jr. (Aliso Niguel)
Senior Jose Mata was third at CIF coastal division at 113-pounds but did not compete at the masters meet tournament. Mata was triumphant in placing fifth at Five counties last year.

Richie Herrera Jr. (Sonora) vs. Justin Flores Sr. (Irvine)
As a sophomore, Richie Herrera was a CIF runner-up and advanced to the masters meet tournament at 120-pounds where he finished with a 1-2 record. Flores, who is a senior, was fifth at CIF and a master meet qualifier last year at 126-pounds.

Marcos Magana Sr. (Servite) vs. Ali Kaveh Sr. (Aliso Niguel)
Magana is a senior that represented Servite at CIF. He was fourth in the tournament and advanced to the master meet tournament where he finished with a 1-2 record after losing tight matches to the 9th and 10th place winner. Kaveh is also a senior who was third at the CIF coastal division at 126-pounds. Kaveh placed seventh at masters and was a state qualifier.

Steven Kroesen Sr. (Laguna Hills) vs. Josh Medina Sr. (Servite)
Kroesen is the second wrestler for Laguna Hills competing at the O.C. All-Star Dual-Meet. Last season, he finished fifth at both CIF, and the masters meet tournament and was a state qualifier at 126-pounds. Medina has been solid for the Friars despite haven’t placed at CIF due to injuries. He had a solid season as a junior that saw him placed second at Five Counties. Medina is coming off from conquering the competition at the World Challenge tournament, one of the top pre-season events in California.

Roy Okada (Servite) vs. Trent Houle So. (Capo Valley)
Houle advanced to CIF as a freshman after placing third in his respective league tournament. Houle finished with a 1-2 record at CIF at 126-pounds.

Daniel Magana Sr. (Servite) vs. Luke Gayer Fr. (Calvary Chapel)
Magana is one of the top wrestlers for the Friars. As a junior, he placed second at CIF and advanced to the masters meet tournament where he finished with a 2-2 record. He was solid for Servite after having placed at Five Counties, Sierra Nevada, and the Clovis West Shootout. Gayer is only a freshman for the Church Boyz. He recently competed at the World Challenge where he finished with a 3-2 record.

Christian Gomez Sr. (Yorba Linda) vs. Alex Godina Sr. (Westminster)
Gomez qualified for the first time to CIF and did his best by placing seventh at 132-pounds. Godina was an individual CIF champion at 138-pounds. He advanced to the masters meet tournament where he finished with a 1-2 record.

Teddy Okada Sr. (Servite) vs. Dylan Zotea So. (Fountain Valley)
Injuries sidetracked Okada’s goal to become a state placer for the Friars. Due to his injury at the Sierra Nevada tournament, Okada was out the entire 2017-18 season. Okada recently competed at the World Challenge where he won the event by defeating 2018 state champion Jaden Abas (Rancho Bernardo) 7-3. As a freshman for the Barons, Zotea had a successful season that saw him placed third at Five Counties, CIF, and advanced to the masters meet tournament where he finished top 12 in his weight class.

Andrew Sparks Jr. (Calvary Chapel) vs. Valor Buck Jr. (Servite)
Sparks was one of six wrestlers that placed at CIF and helped the Church Boyz place fourth as a team. Sparks placed sixth at CIF at 126-pounds.

Tyler Watkins Sr. (Orange Lutheran) vs. Collin Nicholson Sr. (Trabuco Hills)
As a high school junior, Watkins was second in his league tournament, fourth in CIF, and advanced to the masters meet tournament where he finished top 12. Nicholson is down a few weight classes after having qualified to CIF at 182-pounds. He placed third in CIF and was 1-2 at masters meet.

Trey Munoz Sr. (Trabuco Hills) vs. Michael Valdez Sr. (Calvary Chapel)
Munoz is hand downs the best wrestler in Orange County and the favorite to acquire a CIF state tournament title this upcoming season. The Arizona State signed was CIF, and masters meet champion and finished second in the state at 152-pounds. Valdez is the nephew of University of Oklahoma All-Americans Shane and Dame Valdez. Last year as a junior, Michael was fourth at CIF and advanced to the masters meet tournament.

Joaquin Garcia Jr. (Villa Park) vs. Conner Le Jr. (Laguna Hills)
Garcia is the second Villa Park wrestler in this contest. He was fifth in CIF as a sophomore and was a masters meet qualifier at 152-pounds. Conner is also a junior just like his counterpart, Garcia. Le finished fifth at CIF at 145-pounds and was a master meet qualifier.

Kaimana McCreadie Sr. (Irvine) vs. Josh Harkey Jr. (Dana Hills)
McCreadie had a tremendous junior season that saw placed eighth at Five Counties, first at CIF, and finished a match away from advancing to the state tournament. Harkey was a CIF place winner for the Dolphins as he placed seventh at 182-pounds.

Eduardo Salmeron Sr. (Villa Park) vs. Nicholas Damschen Sr. (Fountain Valley)
Salmeron was a CIF place winner, and masters meet qualifier for the Spartans at 170-pounds. Damschen was one of four Baron wrestlers that qualified to the masters meet tournament. He placed sixth at CIF at 182-pounds.

Tristan Wilson Jr. (Servite) vs. Rodrigo Hernandez, Capo Valley
Wilson was a CIF place winner as a sophomore for the Friars. He placed fifth at 195-pounds and went 1-2 at the masters meet tournament.

Mike Ruiz Sr. (Villa Park) vs. Angel Arguino Sr. (Capo Valley)
Ruiz had a great season last year for the Spartans that saw him placed first at league, CIF, and sixth at the master meet tournament at 220-pounds. He recently competed at the World Challenge where he placed second behind a state place winner. Argunio was a league champion, placed third at CIF, and qualified to the masters meet tournament.

Randy Arriaga Sr. (Capo Valley) vs. Samy Mikahiel Sr. (Cypress)
Mikahiel was eight at CIF but did not qualified to the masters meet tournament. Arriaga was triumphant last year in winning league, CIF, and placing seventh at the masters meet tournament to punch his ticket to the state tournament.
