The Ultimate Summer Series tournament is proud to announce the addition of the Cabanillas twins (Nicky and Ricky) out of DePaul Catholic, New Jersey. Both grapplers will bring their East Coast style of wrestling to attempt and claim individual titles and take them back to the Garden State.
The Cabanillas twins started their scholastic careers at Bergen Catholic where they were Doc Buchanan medalists as freshmen. Nicky was eighth at 120-pounds, while Ricky seventh at 138.
Ricky was triumphant this past 2017-18 season in claiming an individual state championship at the New Jersey state tournament at 145-pounds and closing out his junior campaign with a 45-1 record. He turned heads at the always tough Beast of the East tournament by winning the event and helping DePaul Catholic place in a right spot at the team standings. Ricky was also third at the Powerade tournament, considered by many as the toughest tournament in Pennsylvania, and he is currently ranked # 5 in the country at 152 by Flo Wrestling.
Nicky, the smaller of the Cabanillas twins, joined his brother (Ricky) at the NJSIAA state podium as he earned a fifth-place medal at 126-pounds to finish his junior campaign with a 38-7 record. He is a two-time District 7 champion, Region 2 champion, and ended in the blood round at the Beast of the East and Powerade tournaments. Both Cabanilla’s should contend for a state championship next season in New Jersey.
