BOYS: 2021 FOLKSTYLE NATIONALS RESULTS (April 1-2)
GIRLS: 2021 FOLKSTYLE NATIONALS RESULTS (March 28)
CA wrestlers continue to venture out-of-state to chase down national-caliber competition and this past week was no different with the boys and girls visiting Iowa for the 2021 USAW Folkstyle Nationals tournament. In the junior age-group, Ray Ray Harris (Buchanan, 106), Raymond Lopez (Buchanan, 120), Luke Gayer (Calvary Chapel, 152), and Juan Mora (Pitman, 285) won individual national titles on the boys’ side while Koda Holeman (Clovis, 106) and Joseph Martin (Buchanan, 170) finished as runner-ups.
For the girls, Samantha Calkin (Liberty, 200) won a national crown while Madison Avila (Madera, 100), Gianna Dibenedetto (Folsom, 122), Taydem Khamjoi (Chavez, 127), Janida Garcia (Lathrop, 132), and Savannah Gomez (Brawley, 138) finished in second place. Also worth noting is Kaiulani Garcia, who placed 3rd at 144 lbs. in the junior division. She’s still in middle school but already ranked #12 in the country.
In the 16U age-group (formerly Cadet), freshmen sensations Collin Guffey (Granite Hills, 120) and Miguel Estrada (Frontier, 138) won national titles while 7th grader Joseph Toscano (126) made an incredible run to finish in second place. Three claimed titles for the 16U girls with Carissa Qureshi (Portola, 117), Taydem Khamjoi (Chavaez, 127), and Avangeline Turner (Davis, 138) – all thre placed in the junior division as well.
