Coach Manny Rivera’s success at the national level is getting noticed by many top grapplers from California and around the country. His latest recruit is CIF state medalist, Angelo Martinoni of Folsom High. Martinoni is coming off from placing second at FloNationals, considered one of the most rugged tournaments in the country, where he defeated several state champions and place winners to advanced to the finals.
During his scholastic career at Folsom High, Martinoni was a two-time Sac-Joaquin champion and a three-time state qualifier. As a senior, Martinoni placed fifth at the CIF state tournament with both of his losses being to the eventual state champion and the third-place winner. Martinoni is a diamond on the rough that is expected to take over the 133-weight class once two-time NCAA national qualifier Sean Nickell, departs in 2019.
During the 2017-18 season, Martinoni placed or won at such events as the Sierra Nevada Classic, Doc Buchanan, Tim Brown, and the prestigious Mid-Cals tournament.
