INDIANAPOLIS, IN. After placing seventh in the Greco-Roman portion of the 2018 Schoolboy Duals, California Gold took on some elite teams in pool b competition of Freestyle for the opportunity to win it and be placed in the Gold/Silver pool.
California Gold kickstarted their quest for a championship title by defeating Oklahoma Red (48-30) in the quarterfinal round. During the dual-meet California Gold earned six (10-0) technical falls and won 11 of the 18 contested matches.
Their semifinal match was a tough one against Minnesota Blue, as down 33-30 with three bouts left to wrestle, California Gold loss one via a fall and two by tech fall to lose the dual-meet 39-30 and get sent to the consolation bracket.
In the consolation bracket, California Gold defeated Michigan Red (65-17) in the consolation semifinal round, before dominating Oklahoma Red (56-26) in the third-place bout.
Tomorrow morning, they will compete against Teams from Missouri, Minnesota, and Iowa, to determine their final placement in the event.
Beau Mantanona (90), Scotty Moore (97), Erik Mccown (106), Eric Almarinez (110), Brock Bobzien (114), Dakota Stephens (119), Ammar Khan (119), Isaiah Garza (149), and Noah Duran (187), were undefeated on the day.
