California Teams dominate competition at USA National Duals (12U)

LAS VEGAS, NEV. – Teams Cali Gold and Butcher Shop Boyz out of the golden state, traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada, to take on some heavy hitters from Arizona, Idaho, and New Mexico, in a round-robin dual-meet competition and both teams were triumphant in placing first and second in the tournament.

Both teams were 6-0 in competition prior to facing each other in the final round. Cali Gold began the dual-meet with a strong statement as Abram Cline (66) earned the fall over his opponent to give Cali Gold a (6-0) start.

Nate Carrillo (70) responded with a (12-1) win to close the gap to 6-4 after two matches. Nevertheless, Cali Gold earned three falls and a (15-6) win at 74, 78, 82, and 87-pounds to widen the gap to 28-4.
Team Butcher Shop Boyz was not going to go down easy and won the next three bouts via a fall to make the score 28-22 with five matches remaining in the dual meet.

The dual-meet went back and forth to make the final score (44-31) in favorite of Cali Gold. The critical moment of the match occurred at 127-pounds as Carson Gooley (Cali Gold) didn’t give up the fall, and Ray Gulmatico (Butchers Shop Boyz) only earned a (7-4) decision.

A pin by both Gulmatico and Major Brown at 172-pounds would’ve given Butchers Shop Boyz the win. Tomorrow, the tournament will become an individual event as the boys will compete in Freestyle and Folkstyle.
