FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State Wrestling revealed its 2018-19 schedule on Tuesday evening at Dog House Grill at the first-ever Schedule Reveal Party.

“The climb continues this season as we are really excited for our second season back,” said head coach Troy Steiner to an excited Red Wave crowd before unveiling this season’s schedule.

After finishing its first season back on the mat ranking top five nationally in attendance, the ‘Dogs will host seven duals at the Save Mart Center in 2018-19 hosting four Big 12 opponents as well as Minnesota out of the Big Ten, Oregon State of the Pac-12 and Division I-transitioning Cal Baptist.  The Bulldogs will also wrestle six road duals, including four Big 12 foes, while traveling to Nevada and Illinois for three individual tournaments.

The Bulldogs will get their second campaign since returning as a Division I program underway during the first weekend of November traveling over 2,800 miles east to take part in the Rutger Duals on Nov. 3 hosted by Big Ten conference opponent Rutgers, who finished top 10 in the nation in 2018, in New Jersey.

The ‘Dogs then stay on the road for a pair of Big 12 duals in Colorado traveling to Northern Colorado and Air Force on Nov. 11. Fresno State secured its first dual win as a member of the Big 12 over the Bears last season in Greeley, 20-19.

Returning home, the Bulldogs welcome North Dakota State to the Save Mart Center on Nov. 16 for its home opener as the Bison and ‘Dogs wrestle for the first time as Big 12 foes.

Heading back on the road, Fresno State goes back down Interstate 5 to San Diego for the Second Annual Battle on the Midway as the ‘Dogs take on Pac-12 opponent Stanford on the USS Midway on Nov. 20. The first year of the event in 2017 saw the Bulldogs take on Air Force in a marquee event sponsored by Left Coast Wrestling.

After taking a short break for Thanksgiving, the ‘Dogs close out November and open December in Las Vegas for the 36th Annual Cliff Keen Invite, annually one of the toughest individual tournaments in the regular season.

The month of December continues as another Big Ten foe, Minnesota, makes its way out West for a Saturday night match at the Save Mart Center on Dec. 8. The Golden Gophers return five NCAA Tournament qualifiers from last year, including two-time All-American Ethan Lizak along with transfer Sean Russell from Edinboro.

The ‘Dogs close out the 2018 calendar year with a pair of individual tournaments traveling to the Reno Tournament of Champions for a second year on Dec. 20 before heading to the Midwest for the 56th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships hosted at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill., on Dec. 29-30.

The Bulldogs return to Fresno to open 2019 with Division II opponent Cal Baptist, who is making the transitioning to Division I, at the Save Mart Center on Jan. 3. The Lancers return two NCAA Division II All-Americans, including 149-pound champion Daxton Gordon from a team that finished third at the 2018 NCAA Division II Championships.

Two Big 12 road duals follow at Iowa State on Jan. 13 and Utah Valley on Jan. 18 before the ‘Dogs return home to open a three-match homestand welcoming South Dakota State for the first-ever dual against the Jackrabbits on Jan. 20. The Jackrabbits finished 8-0 in Big 12 duals last season tying for the regular season title with Oklahoma State. SDSU returns three NCAA Tournament qualifiers from a year ago, including 2018 NCAA champion Seth Gross at 133 pounds.

January wraps up with Pac-12 foe Oregon State visiting Fresno on Jan. 31 before the home stretch closes out with a Super Bowl Sunday afternoon matinee against conference opponent Wyoming on Feb. 3. Both the Beavers and Cowboys return three NCAA Tournament qualifiers and an All-American from a season ago.

Action on the road in the regular season concludes with a pair of duals against Pac-12 opponents Cal Poly and CSU Bakersfield on Feb. 9. The ‘Dogs picked up their first win over a Division foe last season downing the Mustangs, 29-13 at home.

The regular season concludes at home on Feb. 17 with Oklahoma making its first trip to Fresno since Jan. 15, 2005 as the Sooners return a pair of NCAA Tournament qualifiers.

The month of March brings the postseason as the ‘Dogs return to Tulsa, Okla., for the 2019 Big 12 Championships on March 9-10 at the BOK Center. Fresno State finished 11th in its Big 12 Championships debut in 2018 as the ‘Dogs will look to individually qualify for the 2019 NCAA Championships hosted in Pittsburgh on March 21-23 at the PPG Paints Arena.
