Fresno State Update – February 2017

Greetings Bulldog Wrestling Fans,

We are nearly 2 months into 2017 and if all goes according to our proposed competition schedule, there are 249 days until the Fresno State Wrestling inaugural season commences. We have been very busy preparing for that first competition day in early November. Great strides have been made in so many areas of the Bulldog Wrestling program that we would like to share with our fantastic supporters. Thank you for being attentive to all the great things that are coming together:

The final drawings are in their FINAL stage. We have worked diligently with administration for these much anticipated facilities. President Joseph Castro and Athletic Director Jim Bartko have stepped up to help provide us with a high quality wrestling facility that will rival many Division I programs in functionality and efficiency for our Fresno State athletes. Construction is underway and completion date is projected to be July 1.
The coaches and administration set the culture of this program and it’s the high level recruits that help carry out that culture. We feel the people that represent our university are the backbone and we take pride in finding the absolute best. Currently, we have commitments from 16 student-athletes that signed in November 2016. Coaches Silva, Chamberlain and I have been working extremely hard to find the best candidates to fill our roster. Mid-April is our next signing period which should complete our 2017-2018 Fresno State Wrestling Team. Our mission in finding the best candidates has not changed: these student-athletes will embrace the opportunity to come to Fresno State to get a great education and have aspirations of competing for conference and national championships. They will also aspire to reach the pinnacle of our sport at the World & Olympic Levels as well as be contributing members of Fresno/Clovis area and other communities.
Congrats to Chamberlain:
Jason Chamberlain, Bulldog Assistant Coach, placed 2nd at the Dave Schultz International Wrestling Tournament on Feb 2. On his path to the finals, he defeated Bulgarian Olympian and former California star, Boris Novachkov in commanding style but eventually fell to Jordan Oliver in the finals 8-6. Check out the finals match here.

Chamberlain will travel to Kiev, Ukraine to represent Team USA in Men’s Freestyle at 70 kg competing on March 3-4.
