2019 Garlic City Rumble at Gilroy High School
The first annual Garlic City Rumble at Gilroy High School in the Central Coast Section was a great success. With a standing room only crowd, fans from the Golden State were provided the distinct opportunity to witness some of the nation’s top teams and individual compete in small dual meet format. Ranked #2 in the nation by many wrestling publications, Wyoming Seminary of Pennsylvania displayed why they are among the top tier programs in the country with convincing wins over nationally ranked Gilroy (CCS) #14 and California #1 (#11 nationally) Buchanan of the Central Valley. Also competing in the quad meet was #9 ranked Montini Catholic from Illinois, who had a solid performance against Gilroy and won a come from behind dual with Buchanan in the last match. Overall, California’s best performed well, but came up short against two top-level programs. I commend the staff at Gilroy High School for putting this event together. Hopefully, the Garlic City Rumble will become an annual event that continues to grow in popularity and attracts other top-level programs from around the state and country. Job well done!
