Gracie Figueroa and Alex Glaude ready to win gold at Junior World Championships

Tampere, Finland – After a great day of wrestling where the US men’s freestyle team claimed a team championship for the first time since 1984, the ladies will attempt and reproduce the same success on Thursday. Two California grapplers will take the mats in Finland, Gracie Figueroa (Selma, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) and Alex Glaude (West Sacramento, Calif./Bearcat WC).

Competing at 59 kg/130 lbs. Figueroa will kick things off by taking on 2017 Senior African Championships fourth place finisher, Leanco Stans (South Africa). Should Figueroa advance, she’ll face the winner of Mariia Matyushenko (Russia) and Ilona Prokopevniuk (Ukraine). Both Matyushenko and Prokopevniuk won the bronze medal at the 2017 European Championships.

Glaude, who was the 2017 University Nationals runner-up, will make her Worlds debut against Hyeonyeong Park (Korea), who placed third at the Asian Championships, wrestling at the senior level. If Galude, happens to obtain the victory, she will face the winner of the Alexandra Anghel (Romania) and Davaanasan Enkhamar (Mongolia) match. Anghel is a veteran on the international circuit, as she has represented Romania in various international tournaments.

The first session, which includes preliminary rounds through semi finals and repechage, will begin at 7 a.m. pacific time. The medal matches will take place at 3 p.m.
