Fresno City Head Coach Paul Keysaw has told The California Wrestler that former Cal State Bakersfield wrestler Jose “Pepe” Mendoza would be part of his coaching staff for the 2018 season. Mendoza arrives on Fresno after a distinguished four-year career at Cal State Bakersfield, where the Selma, California native finished in fourth place at the PAC-12 Championships during his senior campaign. A four-time Central Sequoia League champion at Selma High School, Mendoza qualified for the CIF State Tournament four times, and place twice in the event, including a runner-up finish in 2009. Mendoza led the Bears to three league titles and a state runner-up finish in 2008.
Fresno City has won the CCCAA state title during the 2016 and 2017 seasons and will look for a three-peat performance in the upcoming season. Mendoza will be the new assistant coach as Clint Walbeck has moved to volunteer status.
