Lakeside standout Rafael Perez commits to Cloud County College

It’s been a big week for the Lakeside High wrestling program out of Lake Elsinore in Southern California. On Wednesday senior Rafael Perez announced his commitment to compete on the mats for Cloud County College in Concordia, Kansas.

The senior completed his scholastic career as a three-time CIF qualifier, two-time fourth-place medalist, and a top 12 finish at the rugged Southern Section Masters Meet Qualifier tournament at 195-pounds as a junior. Despite not participating his senior season, Perez presence in the wrestling room helped such wrestler as Luis Cruces to qualified to masters.

I’ve been coaching here for a while,” said Lakeside wrestling head coach Jed Clark. ‘If you look at one season, one wrestler that had the best season — he’s that wrestler.

Perez is projected to compete at 174-pounds for the Thunderbirds. The Cloud County Community College wrestling team finished its inaugural season with six participants at the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament (NJCAA).
