NATIONAL CHAMPION

Nina Pham

Year: Senior
Seed: #1
School: Wayland Baptist (TX)

Yerba Buena HS (Central Coast, 2017)
2017: CA state qualifier (101)

At 101 lbs., senior Nina Pham (Wayland Baptist) clinched her third All-American finish, but this one was especially sweet – she won her first national title. Pham was nearly untouchable, winning her first four matches by a combined 42-2 (all techs) and then building an 8-0 lead in the finals before pinning runner-up Ivy Navarro (Providence). Pham was voted the Outstanding Wrestler of the season in the NAIA.

CA had another title hopeful in Alexandra Castillo (Campbellsville), the #1 seed and 2020 WCWA national champion at 191 lbs. Unfortunately, she dropped a 5-1 decision to Jordan Nelson (Life) in the 170 lbs. finals. Nelson had finished 3rd at WCWA at 170 lbs. last season. Castillo had rolled into the finals with three pins and an 8-2 win in the semifinals but could not overcome an early deficit to Nelson. However, Castillo’s weekend efforts helped Campbellsville win their first NAIA national team title.

Nina Pham (Wayland Baptist), your 2021 NAIA national champion at 101 lbs.
