Cheyenne Bowman, a freshman at Rowland High and 2018 CIF 126lbs state champion won the 57 kg gold medal at the 2018 2018 United World Wrestling (UWW) Cadet Women’s Pan American Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Bowman pounded the competition by obtaining the fall over her first opponent from Puerto Rico in 2:37. Bowman followed that performance by pinning 2017 South American Games bronze medalist Tatiana Hurtado-Lerma of Columbia in 1:06 of their contested match.
In the finals match obtained a (10-4) match over South American Games champion Mayra Alejandra Parra-Alvarez of Venezuela to gain her first gold medal in international competition.
Her tournament win assured Bowman a spot at the2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina later this year.
Last month, Bowman was crowned the 57 kg National Champion at the 2018 UWW Women’s Nationals & Cadet World Team Trials in Irving, Texas, that earned her a spot on the 2018 Cadet World Team.
