The first match of the day was a matchup against Lassen College and step 2 to the Big 8 Conference Championship. Sacramento won the first seven matches against Lassen to take a commanding 31 to zero lead. We won 32 to 12.
The next match was Umpqua College out of Oregon. They are a National Junior College Athletic Association program. We split the first four matches 2 and 2, then finished the match with six straight wins for a 38- 6 win.
In the third match of the day, Sacramento City College met up with Warner Pacific University of the NAIA. The Panthers got off to a quick start winning 8 of 10 matches and winning 40-12.
In the final match of the day, the Panthers met Grays Harbor College of Washington. SCC lost the first match and then ran off nine straight wins to defeat Grays Harbor 52 to 2.
Sacramento is now 11-2 on the season and 2-0 in the Big 8 Conference.
Abel Garcia (Soph-165-Oakdale) led the team with four wins including two falls. Ryan Harlow (Fresh-133-Elk Grove), Mikey Mello (Fresh-141-Oak Ridge), Manny Curry (Fresh-157-Pleasant Grove), Jordan Denny (Soph-174-Folsom) and Steven Abbott (Soph-184-Orland) all had three wins. Ryun Ortiz (Soph-125-Potomac, VA), Brian Galeno (Fresh-141-Valley), Marques Evans (Soph-149-Cappuchino), Conrad Trevino (Fresh-157-Del Campo), Isaac Bertalotto (Soph-174-Turlock), Brian Horn (Soph-197-Rocklin) and Eddie Zamora (Fresh-285-Rocklin) had two wins each. Andrew Garcia (Fresh-149-Calaveras) and Bronson Harmon (Fresh-184-Oakdale) won a match as well. Great day and a fantastic job by the team. SCC is now 11-2 on the season and 2-0 in the BIG 8 Conference.
The Panthers travel to Shasta tomorrow, October 31 to meet Shasta College. The Panthers defeated Shasta earlier in the year by a 39-15 score. It is the third of 4 conference meets for SCC.
This weekend SCC will travel to Fresno for the Bill Musick Open.
Looking to next week, SCC will finish its BIG 8 Conference Dual meet schedule on Wednesday, November 7th against Sierra College. It starts at 7 PM. The BIG 8 Championship will be on the line. It will also be Sophomore night as we say goodbye to our Sophomores. If you are a parent of a Sophomore, we would love to have you there. Hope to see you all there to support the Panthers.
