Bethlehem, PA – The best wrestlers in the nation were pitted against each other to determine the number one ranking in their respective weight classes in Flowrestling’s Who’s # 1 event, which took place at Lehigh University’s Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall on Sunday afternoon.
Selma’s GRACIE FIGUEROA made history as she was part of the first female match in event history. She went head-to-head against Macey Kilty of Wisconsin, a 2017 Cadet and Junior freestyle national champion. Their match, which was the lone freestyle match, was to determine the No. 1 pound-for-pound women’s high school wrestler in the country.
Figueroa took a 4-0 lead with two consecutive low single takedowns, however, with four seconds left in the first period, Kilty managed to score on exposure to cut the lead 4-2. Throughout the first period, Figueroa was the aggressive wrestler and was more consistent on getting deep on Kilty’s legs.
In the second and last period of the match, both athletes were using heavy hands and collar ties to weaken each other out. However, with a minute left in the match, Figueroa went up 6-4 on Kilty with another low single takedown to seal the victory.
In the end, Figueroa displayed dominance over her opponent and showed the entire nation why she is the top pound-for-pound wrestler in California and the country.
