Seventeen wrestlers from California still alive at USMC/USAW Cadet Freestyle Nationals

Fargo, North Dakota – Richard Figueroa II (100), Ryan Franco (126), Jace Luchau (145), Erich Osteen and Victor Jaquez Jr (220) completed the first day of Fargo Nationals undefeated. While Christian Cabuag (106), Isaac Salas (120), Jose Fernandez (126), Kyle Parco (132), Marcos Polanco (132), Luka Wick (138), Trent Munoz (145), Nathan Paulson (145), Jonovan Smith (160), Marcos Jimenez (160), and Nathan Haas (182), are within a match from gathering All-American honors.

Seeded # 6 in his weight class, Figueroa II, earned three consecutive wins to advance to the quarterfinals where he will face Yusief Lillie (Washington), who finished with an unblemished record at the Cadet Duals. Ryan Franco’s road to the quarterfinals wasn’t an easy one. In the round of 32 with literally seconds in the match, Franco got the takedown on Sincere Bailey (Illinois) to tie the match 6-6 and earned the victory. His opening match for Sunday will be Keegan O`Toole (Wisconsin), a 2016 Fargo All-American at 106-pounds.

Figueroa’s future teammate, Luchau, also advance to the quarterfinals with three technical fall wins. Luchau will kick things off on Sunday by competing versus Christian Hudson (Idaho). Luchau is 2-0 against Hudson as he beat him twice at the West Regional tournament.

Osteen with wrestle 2016 double Fargo National Champion Braxton Amos (West Virginia) in session III of Fargo, while Jaquez will compete versus Kade Carlson (Utah).
