For the last couple of decades, Gilroy has been the premier wrestling program in the Central Coast Section (CCS), winning 16 consecutive CCS team titles, and producing many state and national level individuals. This year’s squad is ranked #2 in the state, top 10 nationally, and has the depth to challenge for the CIF State team title. One of this year’s top talent is returning state medalist Chase Saldate (Junior – 138s). Ranked #2 in the state by TCW and #6 nationally, Saldate has earned this ranking by placing 3rd at the nation’s toughest high school tournament in the country, Walsh Ironman in Ohio and more recently won the prestigious Clovis Doc Buchanan Invitational and this past weekend, the 5 Counties Invitational. In addition, Saldate is a 2x NHSCA All-American, winning a national title in 2018 and more recently committed to compete for Michigan State. As a result of his great accomplishments this season, Chase has been chosen this week’s TCW Wrestler of the Week. Congratulations and a job well done!
