This weekend the top wrestlers in California, as well as teams and individuals from across the nation came together to battle for the coveted “Cowboy Hat” at the Clovis Doc Buchanan Invitational. Without a doubt, the Doc Buchanan is the toughest high school tournament in the western United States and is arguably among the top 3 in the country, sharing the elite status with the likes of the Walsh Ironman Invitational in Ohio and the Beast of East. Standing out among a very elite field of competitors at this year’s event is 2018 CIF State runner-up and 3x All-American Trey Munoz of Trabuco Hills High School in Mission Viejo. Competing in a highly contested weight group, Munoz registered three falls, one decision, and defeated Colorado State Champion and nationally ranked Drake Engelking of Longmont by decision 7-3 in the championship final.
As a result of his outstanding performance at the prestigious Clovis Doc Buchanan Invitational, the TCW has chosen Trey Munoz this week’s Wrestler-of-the-Week. Congratulations and a job well done!
