Jaden Abas (Rancho Bernardo)
The highly touted recruit out of Rancho Bernardo represented the San Diego Wrestling Association (SDWA) at the Association Duals in Greco-Roman and Freestyle at 145-pounds. In the two-day event, Abas wound up with a 5-1 record with his lone defeat being to Mikey Mello by a fall in Greco-Roman. Abas repaid Mello with a (12-2) win in Freestyle to help SDWA place second in the event.
Leonard Ashley (Wrestling Prep)
Our own O3T student-athlete Leonard Ashley was asked to compete at the Pop and Flo National Duals in Lake Placid, New York, with team Dynasty. Leonard was undefeated on Saturday’s session and lost one match on Sunday to help team Dynasty place fourth in the tournament.
James Armstrong (Grindhouse Wrestling)
Competing in the 2018 Arizona USAW Freestyle State tournament, Armstrong was triumphant in placing third in the Schoolboy Division at 87-pounds. After falling via a fall to the eventual runner-up, Armstrong won three consecutive matches in the consolation bracket to take the bronze medal. All three matches Armstrong won were via technical fall.
Noah Blake (Del Oro)
Blake was one of many O3T student-athletes that represented their association at the Association Duals. Blake rotated between 170 and 182-pounds, as he helped the Sacramento Area Wrestling Association (SAWA) to place seventh in Freestyle and third in Greco-Roman. Blake completed the event with a 6-2 record with five of the wins coming via bonus points.
Gigi Bragg (Pinnacle)
Over the weekend, Gigi competed at the Northern Plains Regional tournament in Freestyle and Greco-Roman inside the RCTC Regional Sports Center in Rochester, Minnesota. Gigi placed second in the Freestyle portion of the tournament, as Caley Graber defeated her in the round-robin bracket.
Gabriel Cortez (Northview)
Competing for the Los Angeles Wrestling Association (LAWA), Cortez had a great weekend that included him going undefeated (4-0) with all wins coming via the bonus point route. His closest match in the tournament was a (12-1) over an opponent from the Inland Empire. Despite not having great results as a team, Cortez was also helpful from the sidelines as he was shouting instructions to the rest of the team.
Ryan Franco (Clovis North)
The CIF state runner-up who is competing for the first time after having surgery looked like a man on a mission at the Association Duals at 132 and 138-pounds. Thanks to his leadership, the Central Valley Wrestling Association (CVWA) was successful in winning both the Greco-Roman and Freestyle events. Franco finished the tournament with a 5-0 record with two (10-0) technical falls, and three falls, the fastest coming in 20 seconds.
Wyatt Fry (Grindhouse Wrestling)
Wyatt Fry has been on fire throughout April and May as he has yet to lose a match. This past weekend, he captured the Arizona USAW Freestyle state at 77-pounds by defeating all opponents via technical fall. His discipline on and off the mats has helped him become one of the top grapplers in the Sun Devil state.
Devin Holman (El Capitan)
Representing the San Joaquin Wrestling Association (SJWA), Holman concluded the event with a 5-0 record as he outscored the competition 37-2. The SJWA squad finished sixth in Greco-Roman and fifth in Freestyle. Holman is having a great off-season as he has completely dominated his opposition in the last month or so.
Jaden Le (Rancho Bernardo)
Jaden the had the most matches of any 03T student-athlete as he competed in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle. Thanks to his never give up attitude, Jaden helped the San Diego Wrestling Association (SDWA) to finished second in Freestyle and fifth in Greco-Roman. Despite finishing with a 4-4 record on the weekend, Jaden showed a lot of maturity and improvement in his wrestling. Two of his losses were to O3T members Ryan Franco and Noah Mirelez.
Tristan Lujan (Selma)
Representing the Central Valley Wrestling Association (CVWA) along with Ryan Franco, Lujan competed at 120-pounds, a weight up his standard 113-weight class. He finished the event with a (4-3) record and helped CVWA acquired titles in Freestyle and Greco-Roman. One of his losses was to 03T member Matt Vinci (9-4) in the finals of the Freestyle event.
Noah Mirelez (Patterson)
Along with Jaden Le (138), Noah Mirelez also competed in eight matches at the Association Duals. Mirelez revolved around the 138 and 145-pound weight class for team San Joaquin Wrestling Association (SJWA). He was triumphant in getting the fall (1:21) over Jaden Le in Greco-Roman to helped SJWA defeat SDWA (38-31) in the fifth-place bout.
Aaron Nagao (Esperanza)
Our lone representative from the Orange County Wrestling Association (OCWA) was undefeated (5-0) during the event at 126-pounds. The CIF state runner-up, teched all opponents he faced to helped OCWA finished seventh in Greco-Roman and third in Freestyle. Nagao was too much for the competition as he outscored the opposition 66-17.
Christian Rodriguez (Selma)
Rodriguez was there for Central Valley Wrestling Association (CVWA) during the first day of competition but was missing in action during the second day due to a family emergency. Nevertheless, Rodriguez helped CVWA win the Greco-Roman portion of the tournament as he concluded the day with a (3-0) record and won all his matches via a (10-0) technical fall.
Jonathan Viveros (Kingsburg)
The beauty of the Central Valley Wrestling Association (CVWA) is that they are so loaded that many of their kids rotated with other wrestlers to get some matches. That was the case with Jonathan at 126-pounds. Viveros completed the two-day event with a (3-2) record and was essential in the success of CVWA winning both the Greco-Roman and Freestyle portions of the tournament.
Matt Vinci (Cathedral Catholic)
Matt was the third O3T student-athlete to compete in eight matches at the two-day event of the association duals. Representing the San Diego Wrestling Association (SDWA), Matt was able to help the association placed second in Freestyle and fifth in Greco-Roman. One of his wins was over fellow O3T member Tristan Lujan of Selma (9-4).
