Poway High senior Josh Tolentino, sixth at the CIF state tournament at 145-pounds, has signed with Utah Valley University to become the third California wrestler in the Wolverines roster along with D.J. Lloren (Buchanan) and Matthew Ontiveros (Central – Fresno).

A three-year varsity starter for the Mean Green machine of Poway High, Tolentino advanced to the state tournament as a junior and senior and helped the Titans placed third in the team standings in both years. As a junior, Tolentino was a CIF-SD Division II and Masters Meet Champion.

This past season, Tolentino was triumphant in winning the Clovis West Shootout, Mid-Cals, and finishing second at Reno Tournament of Champions. Tolentino is projected to compete for the Wolverines in the 141-pound weight class.

Tolentino becomes the third Titan grappler to have signed with a Division I program. Teammates Chase Zollmann signed with the University of Wyoming, meanwhile Jacob Allen with the Naval Academy.
