Women’s Fargo Champions from California

2002 was the year that team California won a Fargo Championship in the women’s Division for the first time. As a matter of fact, two of our wrestlers were crowned champions – Malinda Ripley (110) and Lindsay Owens (128). Since them, we have had 24 female wrestlers win titles in the Junior Division, and ten have been successful in the Cadet Division.
In 2008, Northview’s Tatiana Padilla became the first grappler from the Golden State to win four Fargo National Championships; A feat that has only been accomplished by Aaron Pico and Gracie FigeroaFigueroa could shatter the record this month by winning her fifth Fargo title.
Women’s College Wrestling Association (WCWA) All-American’s Marina and Regina Doi (King University/Kingsburg) were triumphant in claiming three Fargo titles. The Doi twins didn’t compete in Fargo in 2012 and thus missed the opportunity to become the first set of siblings to win this event four times.
2011, 2013, and 2016 have been the better years for our women wrestlers in Fargo as we claimed five individual titles in those tournaments. With the mass amount of talent that the Golden State produces each year, there’s no doubt in my mind that Team California once again will come back with an abundant amount of Fargo titles.
