California state medalists (Zamilpa) and two state qualifiers (Chacon and Gomez) will take their talent this fall to Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, and join former Cal Baptist assistant coach Andrew Nicola. Tristan Zamilpa competed at Buchanan High where he was a three-time CIF state qualifier and a place winner his senior season. As a junior and senior, Zamilpa helped the Bears conquered a coveted team state title.
Joseph Chacon and Carlos Gomez compete for Los Angeles power team Birmingham High. Aside from being a three-time state qualifier, Gomez was a two-time section champion and finished the 2017-18 season top 12 in the state tournament. Chacon’s scholastic career include being a three-time section medalist and a state qualifier as a senior.
Zamilpa will be competing at 149/157 for the Bulldogs, while Chacon will be at 285, and Gomez at either 174/184. During the 2017-18 season, the Bulldogs finished 22nd at NAIA Nationals with one All-American in Giovanni Castillo (5th), formerly of Cerritos College and Corona/Centennial High School.
